With fall colors on display and enjoyable weather, Eric, Elena, and I headed to the lower Pere Marquette River after fall steelhead. We got to the river shortly after sunrise and headed to our first spot of the morning. With no luck and a few other boats around, we decided to take a little boat ride down river. After one more spot without a bite, we moved a little further down and found our first taker of the morning – a small but lively steelhead. Moving again, we hooked up with a good fish that, after a few minutes, found a log jam and broke us off. We tried that spot a little longer with no more bites.

Today was a one-and-done kind of day for us so we had to stay on the move. Eric hooked into our next fish and this one was a jumper. It bounced off the shore and then about jumped into the boat before it finally grew tired and let us net her. After a few pictures, we released her to fight another day.
We found a few more biters that did not go our way before Elena landed her first fall steelhead and the day was made with a beautiful 12-pound chrome bullet.
We almost had too nice of weather to be fishing in but it was a perfect fall day to be on the river.
